1.
Q. How often should I wash my car?
A. The International Carwash Association recommends washing every 7 to 10 days.  Washing your car once a week will ensure that the vehicle's surface is being cared for properly. Make washing your car part of a weekly ritual. If you go for many weeks without washing your car you may have allowed irreparable damage from acid rain, bird droppings, bugs or salt to occur. For many people their car is the second largest investment they make after their home. Doesn't it make sense to protect it? Feel good in a clean car and increase the value at trade time.

Q. It just rained or snowed so why do I need to wash my car?
A.  Washing your car after a rain is one of the most critical times to wash your vehicle, according to the International Carwash Association.  Pollutants, such as sulfuric and nitric acids from automobile, truck, and factory exhaust become trapped in rain drops or snow flakes (commonly referred to as acid rain).  After the water evaporates, it leaves a film of acid.  Add sunlight to this mixture and the acid can become so strong that it will eat through your car's finish.

Q. Should I hand wash or use an automatic car wash?

A. While many people believe that hand washing is safer to a vehicle's finish than automatic washing, this is not necessarily true. A few years ago, The Technological University of Munich did a study for Mercedes Benz to discover which method of washing was safer for the finish of a vehicle. A few years later, the University of Texas was commissioned by the International Car Wash Association to conduct a similar test. The results were quite startling. It was found that hand washing a car 26 times and washing a car 26 times at an automatic cloth car wash, the surface of the hand washed vehicle showed damage. This was determined by taking microscopic pictures of the paint finish. When enlarged, these photos revealed deep and numerous scratches in the paint of the hand washed vehicle.

Why did this happen? It was determined that each time the hand wash sponge or mit is placed on the surface of the car, it continually picks up girt in the fibers that are not rinsed out. This grit acts like a very fine sandpaper putting scratches in the paint.

In an automatic car wash however, the car is constantly flooded with water and shampoo. This forms a protective layer between the washing material and the paint surface which washes away girt and dirt before it can damage the finish.

Additionally, most people who wash their cars at home don't realize where the contaminated water goes, or how much is wasted.  Home car washing releases contaminated water directly into the environment, or into storm drains intended just for rainwater.  This causes pollution in our rivers, lakes and streams.  Also engineering studies show that a 5/8" hose running at 50 pounds per square inch uses 10 gallons of water per minute!  As many as 100 gallons of water could be used in a ten-minute home car wash – most of it wasted.

Q. Is your carwash touchless or does it have brushes?

A. At the Full Service location, Magic Car Wash's brushless, 100% soft cloth wash gently cleans your car using safe, bio-degradable soaps and polishes.  Many years ago some car wash operators used plastic brushes to clean cars, this is where the term "brushes" came from. Today, as always, Magic Car Wash uses only 100% soft cloth to clean your vehicle. The cloth is rinsed with fresh water during every car wash to ensure the cloth is cleaned thoroughly. The equipment is inspected daily as well as replaced frequently to ensure the safest possible environment for washing your car.

Our Magic Car Wash North touchless car wash does not use a direct-contact cleaning method, but instead uses high quality chemicals and high pressure water to clean your car.  At our touchless location we use two different soaps with varying pH's to thoroughly clean all types of debris from your vehicle.  We follow the soaking of your car with a high pressure rinse that loosens and removes all dirt.  This type of washing is recommended for maintenance cleaning of your vehicle when you're unable to make it into our soft cloth location.

5.  Q.  Why is there a film on my car after going through your touchless wash?

A. Touchless car washes are recommended for maintenance washing of your vehicle, and are not designed to be the only car wash your vehicle gets.  This is because a touchless wash, unfortunately, won't clean your car as well as a soft cloth wash that had the mechanical action of the cloth against the dirt on your car.  The film is sometimes referred to as "road oil", and is more prevelant in the spring and summer months after the roads unfreeze from the winter.  Especially if you have a wax or Rain-X-type product on your car, it is almost impossible for the soap and high pressure alone to penetrate the product and clean the road oil,, whether it's our touchless wash or any other touchless wash in town.  The only truely effective way to remove this film is to bring it to a soft cloth car wash like our Full Service location.

As a general rule of thumb, the industry suggests that every 1 to 2 months you should bring your car to a soft cloth car wash to thoroughly clean any of this "road oil" and other stubborn grime off of your vehicle.  Between those washes, you can bring it to a touchless wash for a maintenance wash.
